Sustainability is core to our purpose of "Creating a Taste of Home," involving responsibility for manufacturing, transportation, and distribution, along with the well-being of consumers. The commitment of Dr. Oetker Australia and New Zealand to sustainable action is the foundation of our journey towards regenerative business, aiming to minimize negative impacts and enhance the Earth and lives of people and animals.
With the Dr. Oetker Sustainability Charter, we are globally committing ourselves to sustainable action. We have set ourselves concrete goals for this, which we assign to three dimensions: “Our Food”, “Our World” and “Our Company”. Many colleagues from different countries and specialist areas are working together to achieve these goals.
More and more people are paying closer attention to the way they eat as balance and sustainability play an increasingly important role. We are constantly improving our recipes and introducing more sustainable products while upholding the same standards of quality and taste. We are continuously working on:
We are dedicated to climate protection, responsibly using natural resources to safeguard them for the future. Daily efforts include reducing CO₂ emissions, minimising plastic and food waste, utilising sustainable materials, and establishing deforestation-free supply chains. Our goal is not just to preserve but also to restore our living conditions when possible.
Responsibility - along the entire supply chain
Whether it’s sugar or salt, meat or vegetables, cocoa, or vanilla: raw materials are at the heart of our products. Their purchase is part of our social and environmental responsibility. In order to create the world we want tomorrow, we must engage and partner with external stakeholders. We believe we must work together by forming meaningful partnerships with non-profits and charitable organisations that create shared opportunities for communities and people around the world. Dr. Oetker Australia and New Zealand is focused on helping communities address their sustainability challenges, and work closely with the Sustainable Vanilla Initiative, Rainforest Alliance Cocoa and Fairtrade.
Sustainable Packaging
We are committed to making all our packaging recyclable by 2025. We use recyclable paper instead of plastic wherever sensible and possible, and when we do use plastic, we make sure that it’s as recyclable as possible. These are our basic principles when it comes to our packaging design, and they guide all our wider packaging initiatives, too.
Dr. Oetker Australia is a signatory to The Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), which is a not-for-profit organisation leading the development of a circular economy for packaging in Australia. The APCO vision is a packaging value chain that collaborates to keep packaging materials out of landfill and retains the maximum value of the materials, energy and labour within the local economy, and Dr. Oetker Australia supports this.
At Dr. Oetker, our focus is on people. To live up to this principle, we rely on three pillars: respectful interaction, a safe work environment and a diverse workforce. We firmly believe that a diverse and inclusive corporate culture is the key to more creativity and innovation. That is why we made promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace one of the key objectives of our Sustainability Charter.
